Manchester United: Romelu Lukaku departure isn’t a disaster but it’s time to step up - Manchester United

The tides are shifting in Manchester United’s striking department.

After watching his strikers come up horribly short to his own high goal-scoring standards, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ruthless side could be about to come out, at long last. Indeed, the Norwegian has seemingly (as per the Sun and they also relay Gazzetta Dello Sport) seen nothing special in Romelu Lukaku and won’t stop his potential departure this summer.

The Belgian has previously talked about a “dream move” to Italy and according to the reports, he’s already agreed personal terms with Inter Milan. While Ed Woodward surely won’t allow his £75m addition to leave without recouping a huge fee, it’s looking likelier that Lukaku has played his last game at Old Trafford.

Now the question arises on who’ll be replacing him. obviously. Indeed, Marcus Rashford is still undergoing the transition from winger to a proper centre-forward and Anthony Martial is as frustrating as they come. Elsewhere, Mason Greenwood is too young to rely upon and, clearly, the Red Devils need to make a statement of intent by bringing in a world-class striker who can immediately solve their goal-scorer issue.

Their target list only grows bigger. United have been linked with chasing Lyon’s Moussa Dembele, while also flirting with Antoine Griezmann recently. Ah, silly season really has kicked in.

Regardless of whoever they pin down, the Red Devils must sign up a striker before July 1st. Solskjaer’s apparently (via the Manchester Evening News) set a deadline on wanting his outcasts sold before pre-season and if Lukaku’s not on the plane to Asia, then another world-class goal-scorer must be drafted in quickly.

Sounds obvious, doesn’t it? Well, if there’s one team who can mess it up, it’s Manchester United.
