Manchester United: Roy Keane says Marcus Rashford is ‘back to his best’ after superb England strike

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has lauded Marcus Rashford as he capped a fine week’s work with his second goal in four days for England in their win over Kosovo.

Rashford’s measured finish put the Three Lions 3-0 up in Pristina, and his goal saw Keane label his strike as ‘pure quality’.

The 22-year-old also netted on home soil as England thrashed Montenegro 7-0 on Thursday night, and heads back to Manchester United looking to continue his promising form, having been on target against Brighton before the international break.

Speaking on ITV as a pundit, Keane felt while the opposition was not of a top quality, Rashford nevertheless showcased his talent.

He said (via Metro): “He is back to his best. Lovely play, nice and simple.

“Does it matter about the opposition? Of course it does, because they’re getting opportunities, but that was the goal of the night, lovely finish. Pure quality.”

Rashford is certainly in a rich vein of form, and has now scored for four games running for club and country – a run which started when he notched in United’s Europa League win over Partizan Belgrade.

With nine goals to his name already for United this season, it looks like Keane may be right about the forward’s form, with his previous best goal haul of 13 looking severely under threat of being overtaken this year.

That would suggest Rashford is revelling in the absence of Romelu Lukaku, who had taken the main share of goalscoring duties over the past two seasons. Averaging the most shots per game (3.1) of anyone in the United squad, as well as the third-highest number of key passes at 1.4 (per WhoScored), the academy graduate is clearly leading the attacking line these days.

Meanwhile, his recent flurry of goals on the international stage shows the continuing progression of Rashford, with his latest strike meaning he has notched in each of England’s last three games.

Therefore, everything seems to point towards this season perhaps becoming Rashford’s best yet from a goalscoring perspective.
