Manchester United: Samuel Luckhurst’s view on Mason Greenwood divides Red Devils

Samuel Luckhurst has compared Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood to Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney via the Manchester Evening News, and his comments have divided the Red Devils fan base.
Writing in the local outlet, Luckhurst suggested Greenwood could score as many goals as Rooney managed in his first full season, and pointed out the academy graduate has already scored more than Ronaldo managed in his third.
At the moment, it is fair to say the 18-year-old still has quite some way to go before he emulates one of the greatest footballers to ever grace the beautiful game.
Making his first-team debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season, the England U-21 international has featured in 39 games for United in this campaign, scoring 14 goals and creating 1 assist so far. Despite the fact most of Greenwood’s appearances have come off the substitutes’ bench, he has still scored 5 goals in the Premier League (WhoScored).
In comparison, having moved to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon as a teenager, Ronaldo played in 292 matches for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, racking up 118 goals, producing 69 assists, lifting the coveted Champions League trophy, and helping United to three Premier League titles, before departing Manchester for La Liga giants Real Madrid in 2009 for a then-world record fee valued at £84.6m.
As expected, Luckhurst’s thoughts divided loads of supporters, with some hyping the English youngster up, while others preached caution. One fan even argued “they said the same for Lingard.”
Take a look at some of the mixed reactions down below…
Of course, Greenwood the next goat.

This is why youths fail. Ridiculous comparisons like this to raise expectations for beyond reality. I feel bad for all the younger players at this point trying to live up to garbage like this.
