Jose Mourinho must be desperate to bolster his squad before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The Red Devils have spent over £85m to bring Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant to Old Trafford this summer. Nevertheless, Mourinho has bemoaned their lack of spending in a window where their rivals have strengthened significantly. He publicly criticised the club in the hope of fuelling some last-minute deals.

Mourinho wants to add a world-class centre-back to his squad this summer and has targeted Leicester’s Harry Maguire and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld. The former Chelsea boss has also identified Willian as the perfect replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan on the right wing. However, Chelsea are unwilling to lose their star player.

Instead, United should turn their attention to Barcelona superstar – Ousmane Dembele. Valued at £72m by Transfermarkt, the Frenchman endured a difficult debut season in Spain after joining from Borussia Dortmund for £103m last summer. Injuries restricted the World Cup winner to just 12 league starts, but he still managed to score three and pick up six assists.

Following the capture of Malcom from Bordeaux, Dembele is reportedly unhappy with his situation at the club and could seek a summer exit according to reports. If the 21-year-old leaves, United should be front of the queue for his signature.

The former Rennes man is blessed with electric pace and terrific dribbling ability. Dembele doesn’t have a weaker foot which makes him extremely unpredictable. His arrival would bolster United’s forward line and give them a feared attack which could fire them to the Premier League title.
