It couldn't be clearer that Manchester United need a change of transfer strategy. Buying stars hasn’t worked and that’s why they should forget Philippe Coutinho (linked with the Red Devils by Spanish outlet AS) and buy Swansea’s Daniel James instead.

Sky Sports have claimed the club are close to buying James in around £15m, and that should be music to United fans’ ears. Usually, supporters would prefer a big-name signing but now they need to rebuild with players looking to prove themselves.

Stars like Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez had already developed themselves into the world’s greatest talents when they arrived at Old Trafford. It’s almost as if they felt their job was done after they earned their big move. They’ve been dreadful.

James has impressed for Swansea this season despite being just 21-years-old. His five goals and 10 assists in 38 appearances in all competitions have proved he’s ready to make the step up. Frankly, he could be the start of a dynasty at United.

The Welsh international had already proved he can cope on the big stage, and his confidence on the ball will mean he’s not frightened of the high pressure that comes with playing for United. Looking back at the club's traditions is clearly a big thing for the current regime and he certainly has all the traits of a typical United winger of old.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a major rebuilding job to do in the summer. Starting by ignoring big stars like Philippe Coutinho and bringing in the likes of Daniel James would set the tone for what promises to be an exciting come-back.
