Manchester United: These fans weren’t happy to see Jesse Lingard starting ahead of Mason Greenwood against Partizan Belgrade

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made seven changes to his starting line-up for yesterday’s Europa League clash away to Partizan Belgrade from the 1-1 draw against Liverpool last weekend, as per BBC.

Jesse Lingard was among those who came into the team, the 26-year-old making his return to action after picking up an injury in United’s previous European clash away to AZ Alkmaar earlier this month, as per Sky Sports.

While the England international came into the line-up in an attacking midfield role, there was no place in the team for teenager Mason Greenwood, who had started the Red Devils’ first two Europa League Group L games but did not make an appearance last night, as per TransferMarkt.

Lingard came close to netting what would have been his first goal since January when, in the 37th minute, his shot cannoned off the post and away to safety for Partizan Belgrade. He went on to complete the full 90 minutes of a match for the first time this season.

He would not have had the opportunity to do so last night if some Manchester United fans on Twitter had their way, with these supporters preferring to have seen Greenwood ahead of Lingard in the starting line-up:

Do you think Lingard justified his selection last night or should Greenwood have started ahead of him? Join in the discussion by commenting below!
