Manchester United have reportedly been on the verge of signing Barcelona and Spain sensation Thiago Alcantara.
But it appears the Catalan giants are ready to make a dramatic U-turn and offer the 22-year-old Spaniard a new deal, according to Metro.
The creative midfielder looked to be heading for the Camp Nou exit this summer after struggling to progress int the Barca first team ahead of Cesc Fabregas, Xavi and Andres Iniesta and new Red Devils manager David Moyes was understood to be preparing a bid to bring him to Manchester.
But is believed talks over a new contract between Thiago’s father and Barca’s club president Sandro Rosell have begun, although there may not be any guarantees of more playing time.
With that in mind, Moyes may still have a chance of securing the services of the Spanish Under-21 starlet, who scored a hat-trick in Spain’s recent 4-1 demolition of Italy in the Under-21 European Championships in Israel.
Moyes is not the only person at United who is impressed with Thiago, either. United legend Ryan Giggs was singing his praises earlier this month.
Giggs told Spanish newspaper Marca: “I’ve seen him in several games.
“He’s a good player but there’s always a lot of speculation with United and good players. We’ll see if it happens in the end but he’s a big talent.”
Despite struggling to hold down a permanent first-team place at Barcelona, Thiago has made 68 appearances in La Liga, scoring seven goals.
Do United still have a chance of luring Thiago to Old Trafford this summer or will he stay in La Liga? Rate this rumour below.
