Manchester United will want to put their poor pre-season behind them as soon as possible.
It’s not been the start to the season that Manchester United fans would have hoped for. Their pre-season tour of the United States has been overshadowed by Jose Mourinho’s complaints about players, transfers and referees. The United faithful were glad to see the side return to winning ways – goals from Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera gave them a 2-1 win over Real Madrid.
Mourinho has brought three players to Old Trafford this summer, signing Fred, Diogo Dalot as well as Lee Grant. The former Chelsea boss is desperate for new signings in order to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next year. It is believed Mourinho wants a new forward and has targeted Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski according to reports.
However, Lewandowski is almost 30 and wants around £500,000-per-week to leave Munich. Instead, United should turn their attention to Inter Milan forward – Mauro Icardi. Valued at £85.5m by Transfermarkt, the Argentine has cemented his status as one of the world’s best strikers.
The 25-year-old enjoyed another stellar season in the Serie A last year, netting an incredible 29 goals in 34 appearances; finding the back of the net every 102 minutes. The Argentina international has bagged over 20 goals in three of the last four seasons highlighting his excellent finishing ability. If United want to add goals to the side, Icardi is the man to target.
The former Sampdoria forward is approaching the prime of his career, and there is no better time to bring him to the Premier League.
