“Jose, Jose, Jose…” is a chant ringing around Transfer Tavern with regularity today, with Manchester United fans in love with their Portuguese boss following the EFL Cup win at Wembley yesterday.
‘The Special One’ can do no wrong in their eyes, so reports from So Foot that the ex-Chelsea chief has ordered scouts to assess Saint-Etienne’s Kevin Malcuit are being welcomed with real optimism.
The 25-year-old right-back recently starred for Les Verts in both legs of their Europa League last 32 double-header vs. the Red Devils, and although his team shipped four goals across the tie, the Frenchman impressed.
Indeed he was so good in the 180 minutes of football that Mourinho has, according to So Foot, instructed scouts from Manchester to watch him closely to assess whether or not he could be a summer addition.
Although primarily a defensive player, Malcuit has made the second most take-ons of any defender in Ligue 1 this season (47), which shows his attacking intent (via Squawka).
Interestingly, Mourinho has struggled with his right-back options since stepping into the Old Trafford dugout, with converted winger Antonio Valencia filling the role.
