The Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a much closer challenge of bitter rivals Man City next season. Indeed, the punters propping up our bar believe Jose Mourinho’s men are just a few players off being genuine title-winners contenders for the first time since the retirement of Sir Alex.
With that in mind, suggestions from ESPN hinting at the club’s potential interest in one of the world’s best players has proven really rather interesting. They claim that Mourinho has encouraged Ed Woodward to remain at the front of the queue for Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale amid his links away from the Spanish capital.
The former Tottenham man – who moved to Los Blancos in 2013 for a world record fee – has fallen behind the likes of Isco and Marco Asensio in Zinedine Zidane’s pecking order over the last season or so and United are reportedly one of many suitors. Despite his injury record, Bale is undoubtedly one of the best in the world and his arrival at Old Trafford would certainly send shockwaves around the Premier League.
Bale and United just makes total sense. After a trophy-laden time of things in the Spanish capital, a return to these shores could be the best thing for Bale to properly enjoy his prime and finally leave the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo, who shows absolutely no sign of slowing down.
