Wow. What a signing this would be. For once, even those in the Transfer Tavern have been left utterly speechless.
According to Italian website Tuttomercato.web, Jose Mourinho has identified Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil as one of his top targets should he be handed the reins at Manchester United.
The self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford at the end of the season, though the managerial situation there remains unclear.
Still, the 53-year old is reportedly still compiling a list of objectives should he be installed as a replacement for Louis van Gaal.
One of those is reported to be the signing of the World Cup winning midfielder.
The 27-year old was a huge part of the Real Madrid side that won a La Liga title under Mourinho, who originally brought him to the Spanish capital.
He then moved to Arsenal in 2013 for a record £42m and has been in dazzling form this season after a pretty slow start to life in London.
Any move to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams is likely to be far in excess of the British transfer record that saw Angel Di Maria arrive there in 2014 for around £59m.
Is Ozil key for Arsenal going forward? Can they afford to sell him?
