Naturally, much of the talk following Jose Mourinho’s earth shattering arrival at Manchester United centres around the notion of big money signings at the club.
Whether it’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Karim Benzema, the Red Devils are constantly touted as a potential landing spot for some of the most illustrious names in world football.
However, reports emanating out of Spain suggest the first major decision of the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ at the Theatre of Dreams could be a lot more understated.
Spanish publication Sport suggests the Portuguese could invoke a 12-month extension on the contract of outcast goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who was previously frozen out by Louis van Gaal.
The former Barcelona stopper fell out with the Dutchman and was loaned to Standard Liege earlier this year, though Mourinho is believed to prefer the World Cup winner as backup to David De Gea over current understudy Sergio Romero.
Though his stock has dipped since leaving Barcelona, the 34-year old was regarded as one of the elite stoppers in the game during a glittering spell with the Blaugrana, ironically emerging during van Gaal’s tenure in charge of the Catalan giants.
Man United fans, who would you prefer, Romero or Valdes as backup to De Gea?
