Mourinho predecessor in frame for shock move to Euro giants after sour Man United tenure

van Gaal

Amid the headline grabbing nature of Jose Mourinho’s move to Manchester United, the Red Devils propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern have all but forgotten about the man he replaced.

Like him or loathe him, Louis van Gaal was certainly a character for the Premier League and he did in fact win the club their first major trophy since the seismic departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

While he was never the most popular at the Theatre of Dreams, the Dutchman has a huge pedigree in world football following spells at the likes of Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Upon his departure from Old Trafford, a rather undignified one at that, the 64-year old could be set for a quick-fire return to management.

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sportthe former Holland boss is in the frame for the AC Milan job this summer.

Fellow outgoing Premier League chief Manuel Pellegrini has also been linked, as well as former Chelsea and Spurs coach Andre Villas-Boas.

Will van Gaal leave any fond memories behind? Has he been tarred by his spell at Old Trafford?
