Though there’s a while to go until the season commences and the small matter of the European Champions in the way, the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford has sent shockwaves through the footballing world.
His move to the Theatre of Dreams is likely to alter the landscape of the Premier League, as well as the look of the Manchester United squad.
While much of the talk naturally centres around the prospect of big money arrivals, the players who the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ opts to axe from his ranks could play just as big a part in shaping the squad.
Now, according to Sky Sports, the Portuguese has already decided as to who will headline the departures in order to kick off his reign.
Popular duo Juan Mata and Daley Blind, ever presents under Louis van Gaal, are set to be given their marching orders this summer by the 53-year old.
The former was infamously sold off just six months into working with Mourinho at Chelsea, despite winning the club’s Player of the Year award twice on the bounce prior to that.
He moved to Old Trafford after failing to wholly convince his boss that he suits his style of play, with the former Blues and Real Madrid chief not thought to have changed his mind.
Blind, meanwhile, was a mainstay of the side under van Gaal, though does not appear to suit Mourinho’s preferred style in central defenders.
Should Mata and Blind be kept on by United?
