Their season may be hanging by a thread but here at the Football Transfer Tavern we still think Real Madrid pose a massive threat in the Champions League and it seems Marca think Jose Mourinho feels work needs to be done to agree.
After the frankly dismal performance against Granada at the weekend which saw Real fall even further behind not only Barcelona – the current league leaders but also behind Atletico Madrid, Mourinho has once again expressed his discomfort at several of his players.
Firstly he hit out at what he thought seemed to be players running out of steam noting: “I know why some players were tired because they played on Wednesday and worked hard. I don’t know why others were tired, because on Wednesday they were on the bench or in the stands”. The Special One has also made it pretty clear that more than one of his players are packing the pounds and need to lose a couple of kilos to get back to peak fitness.
Marcelo of course has been injured and in true Brazilian form is now at least 5 kilos away from his perfect weight and is in the bad books for it. Add to that both of the under performing forwards – Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain who are what Mourinho considers to be over their ideal weight and you have a very angry manager.
All of this does not even compare to his rage at Angel Di Maria who Mourinho issued a cryptic warning to in true cavalier Mourinho fashion stating: “If you are losing a game with a few minutes to go and a player picks up an injury that isn’t serious, the doctors shouldn’t have to come on – he should make a sacrifice and play on”.
