While most of the punters in the Transfer Tavern reacted with awe as Jose Mourinho was confirmed at Manchester United, perhaps the more sensitive souls amongst this rowdy lot spared a thought for little Juan Mata.
The Spanish maestro was infamously axed by the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ just six months into their time at Chelsea together, despite winning the club’s Player of the Year in consecutive seasons prior to that.
Upon the arrival of the Portuguese, there were reports that the World Cup winner would instantly be put up for sale, in a similar manner as he was at Stamford Bridge.
Now, according to Spanish outlet Deporte Valenciano, the 28-year old could be used as a makeweight in the club’s battle to land Valencia star Andre Gomes.
However, the report claims that the La Liga giants could significantly lower the price should the Manchester outfit include the Spanish playmaker in any deal.
Before leaving for England in 2011, the La Roja star made his mark on the continetal game at the Mestalla and is said to still have admirers there.
