Mourinho seems to make promising Man United transfer prediction for summer window

Manchester United fans here in the Tavern are hoping that Jose Mourinho can add to the squad in the summer, as some of United’s ageing players come towards the end of their career.

The Red Devils will have been delighted with the business completed this transfer window as they welcomed South American Alexis Sanchez to Old Trafford in a deal that excited many of the die-hard supporters. And, with business seemingly done for the January window, Mourinho’s attention has turned to the summer as he looks to plan for success next season. As according to reports in the Manchester Evening News, Mourinho has revealed his summer transfer window priority.

The Portuguese manager believes that a central midfielder must be the priority for United in the summer, even if Marouane Fellaini does end up signing a new deal at Old Trafford. And, in a position that has five regular first-team players all fighting for a spot in the side, movement is expected with one of these being the career of Michael Carrick coming to an end. Indeed, the English veteran is expecting to retire at the end of the season after a long and successful career, and with Fellaini’s future hanging in the balance it could potentially see them lose out on two midfielders come the end of the season.

Indeed, with Mourinho having completed all the business he requires this transfer window, he’s now turned his attention to giving a verdict on how he’d like to address the middle of midfield in the summer:

“In midfield Michael Carrick will be not the No.16. Who will have Michael Carrick in his shirt next season, so we lose a player. It’s there in midfield where we need to improve but to get a player to compensate the situation of Michael.

“If Fellaini leaves we have two gaps there so let’s see what happens. But in relation to Fellaini the good thing is he wants to stay with us and we would like him to stay with us. To sign a contract the person must be happy and let’s see.”

So, with United confident on securing a Champions League spot and making a run in the knockout stages of the competition this season, success will be a huge attraction for any potential signings that could make their way to Old Trafford in the summer.

Landlord’s Verdict:

A position that Manchester United definitely need to strengthen, with the liable Fellaini yet to make a decision on his future, and Paul Pogba suffering from injuries during his time here already. In a United side that have aspirations to win trophies and bring success to the club, securing another high-quality midfielder could just provide them with that added quality needed to bring glory back to Old Trafford.
