Mourinho should sacrifice World Cup winner to land Serie A star for Man United in January

Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are reacting to the news of a United first-team player potentially being shipped out.

Jose Mourinho has already sold Juan Mata once during his time at Chelsea, and wouldn’t have any qualms in doing so again for the greater good of the squad according to our barman. Mata is out of contract in the summer and with Mourinho surely looking to bring in midfielders for the United future, the Spaniard could be used as a makeweight.

Though a popular figure amongst our resident Red Devils, the World Cup winner and his Portuguese certainly do have previous, especially in the January market.

Indeed, Joao Mario is reported to top Mourinho’s list for a January re-haul of the team and the Inter Milan star is currently out of favour at the club. Having only made four starts all season, our punters believe this has alerted many of the top sides around Europe and the Portuguese international would surely welcome a move away from the San Siro to gain first-team minutes.

As if the idea of swapping Mata of Mario wasn’t enough to discuss, other reports suggest the Italian giants would be interested in trading their Portuguese Euro 2016 winner with a certain Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

With the Armenian is currently out of favour with Mourinho, this could be a wise move. However, an ageing Mata would surely be the better option for the United board looking to invest in the future of the club.

You get the feeling that United could be seeing a better version of Mkhitaryan, while Mata has probably played his best football now, despite the fact he remains useful.

United fans what do you think?
