Mourinho wants 27-year-old at Old Trafford next season as Man United look to challenge

With the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern desperately hoping for some more big name arrivals this summer, many of them are often found discussing top players around Europe as potential targets.

Indeed, that’s an exciting notion to our punters, though reports from ESPN today actually centre around a player who could STAY at Old Trafford over the course of this summer.

Italian international Matteo Darmian has often been linked with a move away from the Theatre of Dreams, though this report claims Jose Mourinho is actually keen on keeping him next term. Though the 27-year-old is said to be attracting interest from both Juventus and Inter Milan, a transfer is seemingly only likely if the player himself asks to leave the club he joined from Torino in the summer of 2015.

Though he’s operated largely on the periphery of the first-team squad for most of his time on these shores, the Italy star’s versatility proved helpful amid an injury crisis towards the back end of the season just gone and Mourinho is believed to want him for next season.

Considering the importance of full-backs in the modern game, our resident Red Devils are eager to see Darmian remain at the club, as they hope to challenge on all fronts next season.
