The Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern don’t want Wayne Rooney to have a free pass back into the first team…
Wayne Rooney’s form this season has been a topic of heavy debate in the Football Transfer Tavern in recent weeks, with the general consensus of our punters being that the Englishman must settle for a bit-part role this year.
Mourinho has slowly come around to dropping the talented forward, with the Portuguese boss opting for Juan Mata in his place against Leicester – a decision that was duly rewarded by a 4-1 thumping of the Premier League champions.
It would appear that even more good news is on the horizon for the Man Utd fans in the Tavern, with reports suggesting the 30-year-old is not set for an immediate return to the United first team this weekend.
Manchester Evening News are reporting that whilst the skipper is expected to start in the Europa League, he is facing a 3-way-fight for a starting role this weekend, with both Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan also in line.
They add that Mourinho sees the latter as a number 10, despite typically playing on the wing – putting another barrier in front of Rooney in his quest for redemption.
Given the form of Mata – it seems unlikely the former Everton prodigy will be thrust back in.
The Man United fans in the Tavern have reacted to this well, and they don’t see any way back for Rooney – at least in the short term.
Mata has been exceptional whenever he has played so far this season, whilst Mkhitaryan is also exciting a few of our punters.
It is, after a disappointing few weeks, a very exciting time to be a United fan – with genuine change seemingly on the horizon.
Our landlord thinks this could be the end for Rooney…
