It’s been a difficult few months for Manchester United. Indeed, life under Jose Mourinho looks to be getting more and more miserable each day and the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ looks to be losing his touch at the top of the managerial game.
Most of Mourinho’s moaning seems to stem from the lack of transfer activity conducted over the course of the summer, with the Red Devils having failed to capture a central defender. Well, while that may be a fairly valid criticism considering the state of some of their performances already this season, it’s not as if the former Real Madrid coach hasn’t been lavishly backed during his time at Old Trafford.
In fact, Ed Woodward even sanctioned the hugely expensive move for Alexis Sanchez that saw United beat arch rivals Manchester City to his signing in January. Though the Chilean, who was running down his contract with Arsenal, didn’t actually command a transfer fee, the huge contract the club put him on didn’t make a huge amount of business sense for a player fast approaching 30.
So, his lack of impact since joining the club looks even worse. The highest earning player in the Premier League (as per the Daily Mail) has done little to justify the huge financial decision to sign him, which is why we recently asked supporters if they regretted signing him or not.
Well, the results are pretty damning.
Indeed, a huge 77% of polled fans DO regret moving for Alexis, who has looked a fish out of water during his short stint at the Theatre of Dreams.
Perhaps things would change if United do part ways with Mourinho – not a manager often associated with attacking football – but, right now, it seems Alexis Sanchez’s signing still has some way to go to convince the Old Trafford faithful.
