The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been in wonderland of late, following their Europa League triumph and constant links with the likes of Antoine Griezmann and James Rodriguez.
Still, the man most recently touted for a move to the Theatre of Dreams is undoubtedly less exciting than the aforementioned superstar duo. But that’s not a bad thing.
Nemanja Matic is reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford in order to reunite with Jose Mourinho, who brought him back to England in 2015. Obviously, there are more inspiring names on the market than the Serbian, though the 28-year-old would undoubtedly be a wonderful signing.
Placing the former Benfica man in the middle of an engine room three, his stoic presence as the anchor in the centre of the park could finally allow Paul Pogba to roam. The Frenchman excelled as the driving force on the left of a three during his time with Juventus, though has struggled at times this season when asked to reign in his marauding runs.
We saw how the world’s most expensive ever player improved with Michael Carrick in the side, who allowed Pogba to push forward. Now, while Matic cannot lay claim to being as classy an operator as the Old Trafford legend, his mobility in the centre of the park to kill opposition attacks would certainly help the France star.
It may not sound like the most exciting signing, though Matic’s potential arrival at Manchester United would certainly be a sensible one.
