Manchester United fans here in the Tavern are anxious ahead of tonight’s Champions League encounter, with a trip to Spain looking like a difficult task.
The Red Devils are raring to go for tonight’s Champions League knockout round first leg against Spanish side Sevilla, with supporters praying that United can bring an away goal back to Old Trafford. But, that’s not the only thing on the minds of our local residents, with the summer transfer window potentially holding the key to solving United’s defensive issues. And, it looks as if they’ve gained the upper-hand in their pursuit of a Stefan De Vrij, as according to reports in the Mirror, the Dutchman is keen on a move to Manchester United.
The Lazio defender is reportedly ready for a move to the Premier League and believes that Old Trafford is his preferred destination. Much to United’s delight, it looks as though they could possibly save themselves some money, with the central defender set to move on a Bosman free transfer after the club admitted they’d given up on new-contract negotiations.
Indeed, Manchester United continue to watch developments closely, with De Vrij already believed to have an offer in place. But, there could be possible implications to bringing the defender to Manchester, with Everton, Liverpool and Arsenal all showing interest.
Nevertheless, a player that the Red Devils will have sitting at the top of their shortlist, with Jose Mourinho eyeing a major defensive overhaul at the end of the season.
The signing of Stefan De Vrij would be a step in the right direction for Manchester United, after the defensive issues they’ve struggled from so far this season. Therefore, acquiring the Dutchman would be a huge statement of intent from Jose Mourinho, with United very much re-building for the possibility of a title challenge next season.
