This long-awaited transfer saga is looking likely to take another twist for our Manchester United here in the Transfer Tavern.
Having spent the majority of the summer months linked to a move to Old Trafford, the winter window is unearthing the same rumour but with a little more added fuel to the fire with the emergence of Atletico Madrid’s interest in United Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera. The Spaniard is out of contract at the end of the season and our punters think it’ll mean any deal for the two will need to be done by the 31st January.
The stand-in barman thinks it’s hard to see how United will let last season’s Player of the Year contract run down and especially as he’s been so instrumental in Paul Pogba’s absence. Many of our local Mancunians here in the Tavern think he is a future captain of the club as United are desperate to regain control of the Premier League again.
Herrera is a firm fan favourite and a move away for the midfield terrier wouldn’t go down too well with the Old Trafford faithful, though maybe the sweetener of Antoine Greizmann coming in the opposite way will take the edge off it.
Swapping the two will work for both sides but the landlord believes United will be a weaker side without him in it because he bleeds United blood every time he steps on the pitch, which couldn’t have been encapsulated anymore than in his performance in the Europa League Cup Final win last season.
Ed Woodward will really have to ensure a deal for Herrera is wrapped up quickly, or risk the wrath of Jose Mourinho, who isn’t happy anyway by the sound of things.
