This article forms part of our Profit Players feature series, which is where Football Transfer Tavern takes a look at how well a player has fared since being signed or sold, using statistical figures and statements from pundits to prove how good of a deal the club managed to achieve.
Marcus Rashford needs to be more like Tammy Abraham, well that’s according to BBC pundit Jermaine Jenas (via The Express). How wrong such a comparison is, especially from a former Premier League player, who should recognise that Rashford adds far more to the United side than just goals.
His value to the side can be seen in all forward areas with the 22-year-old among the leading pack in most of the attacking categories on WhoScored, using stats collated prior to this weekend’s games.
As well as having the most goals and the most assists this season, making him a firm favourite with punters using bet365 promotions for 2020, the England international also averages the most shots per game, the third-most key passes, the most dribbles and is third-most fouled player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side (via WhoScored).
As shown above, Rashford isn’t limited to playing as an out-and-out striker. His ability to carry the ball and draw in fouls makes him a useful player in wide areas, especially when in comparison to Abraham, who averages less in dribbles and fouls won per game for Chelsea this season.
In terms of transfer value, Rashford’s value has soared since breaking on to the scene as an 18-year-old in the Europa League, going from just £9m to a staggering £72m, as per Transfermarkt. That has come alongside reports from Mundo Deportivo that Barcelona were looking at the player as a potential forward signing, showing just how valuable his versatility across the forward positions is.
Abraham is incredibly limited when looking at his overall attacking play compared to someone like Rashford. The United academy product would be a difficult player to replace should he leave the club, hence making him invaluable to the north-west club.
