Premier league giants Manchester United have listed Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen as a primary target come the summer.
United will get a better glance at the highly rated youngster when the two clubs face in February which will be key to whether United decide to make a move or not.
While reports have suggested that United will approach Ajax in January over the 19-year-old, it is highly doubtful that a move will materialise as the Danish international will want to showcase himself off against opposition of United’s stature.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is eager to bolster his squad with some creative attacking players and Eriksen is believed to be the perfect candidate. Although the Danish international is tied up with Ajax until 2014, it hasn’t stopped clubs expressing their interest in the Danish star.
Assistant coach Rene Meulensteen has admitted that Eriksen is a player that is hugely admired by the club saying:
‘This is a player that is on our radar, but that is to be expected. If people weren’t looking, no-one would ever have an opinion on these players.
‘It is true that a player like Eriksen would fit our transfer policy.
‘He is being strongly linked with us, but to suggest that we are about to make a move is not true.’
Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots was also quick to squander any speculation involving his client with a potential move to Old Trafford adding:
‘Christian must weigh up every step he takes in his career,’
‘He gave a lot of thought to joining Ajax. Last summer he could have gone to England, and a German club was very keen, but he passed the opportunity up.
‘He has signed a contract at Ajax and a transfer is not an issue at the moment.’
