Though he remains a fixture in the Manchester United side, Wayne Rooney is a figure entirely divisive amongst the Red Devils in the Transfer Tavern.
The England captain has seen his performances drop in recent months and there is a growing school of thought that the 30-year-old should be permanently axed from Jose Mourinho’s squad.
Now, according to the Sun, even the nation’s record goalscorer is feeling the heat.
They claim he is worried about being given the boot by the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’, who has a plethora of other options from which to choose.
Mourinho is reportedly tempted to deploy either Paul Pogba, Juan Mata or Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the No.10 role behind striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Rooney has struggled to keep up with the tempo in either midfield or attack, drawing a blank against League One Northampton in the EFL Cup.
