The future of Paul Pogba at Manchester United continues to dominate the headlines during the international break.

Speculation raged during the summer transfer window that Pogba could be set to sign for Barcelona. However, the former Juventus man remained at Old Trafford as the transfer window slammed shut for European sides on August 31st. Despite the window being closed, reports are still emerging that Pogba is angling for another United departure.

The Red Devils broke the world transfer record to bring the Frenchman back to Old Trafford, but Pogba is louder off the pitch than on it. His second spell at the club has left much to be desired and cutting their losses could be the right move. Selling Pogba to Barcelona would give United a huge sum of money to spend on a replacement and strengthen other areas of their squad. Indeed, it'd also prove it's Jose Mourinho who is the major power position at the club.

The perfect replacement would be Wolverhampton Wanderers star – Ruben Neves. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the Portugal international was considered one of the top stars in Europe after becoming Porto captain at the tender age of 18 but shocked the world when signing for Wolves last summer. Neves helped Wolves earn promotion back to the Premier League in his first campaign in England, and the youngster has made an excellent start to the new season.

His arrival at Molineux was facilitated by super-agent Jorge Mendes who has extremely close ties to the Wolves hierarchy. Mendes also represents current United manager, Jose Mourinho, and the pair’s relationship could give United the edge over Manchester City in the race for Neves’ signature. United fans would quickly forget about Pogba if United can secure the Portuguese’s services.

Neves is known for his range of passing and loves spraying long balls to the flanks. As well as his passing, the 21-year-old is deadly when shooting from long range, highlighted by his goal of the season contender for Wolves last season against Derby.

Wolves would want a mammoth fee for their prized asset, but United can easily afford Neves’ asking price if Pogba departs.
