The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern were eagerly watching Renato Sanches make his Swansea City debut yesterday.
Indeed, the Portuguese shocked onlookers when he joined the Swans on loan towards the end of the summer window, having previously been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2015.
While he endured a chastening time of things at Bayern Munich, the 20-year-old clearly boasts a lorry load of talent, so our resident Red Devils were interested to see how he got on.
Well, he wasn’t great as the Welsh side lost to Newcastle United yesterday. That’s why comments made by United legend Ryan Giggs to the Associated Press via the Daily Mirror have proven so interesting today.
He claims he travelled over to watch Sanches in action during his stint as the club’s assistant manager, while the engine room powerhouse was still plying his trade with Benfica.
“I was watching him for United a few years ago and I was impressed – I thought he was a really talented player,” he told the Press Association.
“He showed it then and he showed it in the Euros. It didn’t quite happen for him last year for Bayern, which can happen; a young player moving country, different language, a big club and a lot of expectation, but he is a talent and the Premier League will suit him because he’s an aggressive player.
“He can tackle, he can get forward and he’s going to a club that play football the right way so I think he’ll be a success.”
Sanches could still prove to be a huge miss for United, despite his difficult time of things at the Liberty Stadium yesterday afternoon.
Clearly a huge talent, the Portuguese would have been quite the sight when in full flow and paired next to Paul Pogba.
