Manchester United faced a difficult test against in-form Watford at Vicarage Road at the weekend, though came through it with relative ease.

It’s been a turbulent season at Old Trafford so far this season with cracks starting to appear at the club. Jose Mourinho wasn’t happy with his pre-season preparations and was desperate to sign a new centre-back during the summer window which Ed Woodward was unable to deliver. United have won just two of their first four fixtures which has made Mourinho the favourite to be the first manager to lose his job this season.

The Red Devils bounced back from defeat to Tottenham with a comfortable win over Burnley before the international break. Another positive result against the Hornets has at least relieved some pressure on the Portuguese’s shoulders.

The Frenchman has been linked with an exit from the club with Barcelona and Juventus reportedly interested. Regardless of whether Pogba leaves, United should be keeping tabs on Juve superstar – Sami Khedira. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the former Real Madrid lynchpin has less than one year remaining on his contract with the Old Lady.

The 31-year-old has developed into a key player for the Italian champions since making the switch from Spain, lifting three Italian league titles during his time in the Serie A. Khedira also has a Champions League and World Cup medal in his trophy cabinet and would be an inspired addition to the United midfield. He made 28 appearances last season, scoring nine goals.

The German is one of the most well-rounded midfielders in world football, capable of both attacking and defending at the highest level. His experience could be vital in helping the United youngsters make the progression to the first-team. Mourinho was worked with the midfielder in the past and is known to be a huge fan of the anchorman.

Bringing him to Manchester could prove to be a masterstroke.
