The current Manchester United squad cannot compete for the title.
The gap between Manchester United and their cross-city rivals Manchester City was 19 points. Rival clubs, such as Liverpool and Arsenal, have also heavily strengthened their squads in this transfer window. To bridge this gap, more signings are needed at Old Trafford.
One area the club do not need to improve on is between the sticks, in David De Gea the Red Devils have comfortably one of the best stoppers in the League. Elsewhere however, improvements are needed.
The Old Trafford outfit were simply not as comfortable on the ball as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City last season, the centre backs available to Jose Mourinho do not have the technical ability required to challenge for the Premier League title.
There are also issues going forward for Manchester United. The signing of Alexis Sanchez was hoped to fix issues going forward, but often seemed to slow down attacks, and didn’t contribute the goals he was expected to. In truth, the Chilean just looked a better player in an Arsenal shirt. Big name players such as Sanchez and Paul Pogba seemed to have off days all too often in the last campaign.
