Signing Alexis’ big name teammate would give Man United the destroyer they’ve been waiting for

Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting big things now the transfer window is officially open and our punters are hoping some world-class stars will arrive at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho ended the season without a trophy for the first time as Manchester United boss after finishing second in the Premier League and losing the FA Cup final to former side Chelsea. There is a considerable gap between United and rivals Manchester City that United must look to close by landing some of their top targets. Mourinho has been searching for a new midfielder since last summer and watching Fabinho sign for Liverpool will be a kick in the teeth.

Instead, United should make a move for Bayern Munich dynamo – Arturo Vidal. Reports in the Daily Mail have suggested that the German side will look to sell the Chilean in the summer as they look to streamline their squad and generate some transfer funds. The 31-year-old could be set to depart alongside a host of other first-team players.

Valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, Vidal is the player Mourinho has been crying out for. He established himself as one of the world’s best midfielders during his time at Juventus, and his form continued in Germany – he averaged a rating of 7.49 in the Bundesliga according to WhoScored; only three players averaged higher. No midfielder in the Bundesliga made more tackles per game than Vidal according to WhoScored.

United signed his international team-mate Alexis Sanchez, and the winger could have a huge influence in luring Vidal to Old Trafford. Signing the 31-year-old would get the best out of Paul Pogba and put United back into title contention.
