So, according to Goal.com Fergie is looking across the channel at Marseille’s playmaker Mathieu Valbuena as a possible replacement for Ryan Giggs who, at the age of 37 and arguably in the best form of his career is believed to be hanging up his boots soon.
The 26 year old French international has been quoted saying “I would cycle there” as he thought of the prospect of joining the red devils.
And let’s be honest… there’s probably more chance of him cycling there than him filling the boots of Ryan Giggs.
Valbuena, nick-named Le petit velo (the small bike) has spent his career in France winning one league title and three cups.
By the time Giggs was 26 he had six premier league titles, three F.A cups, a league cup and a Champions League winners medal under his belt, also winning P.F.A young player of the year award twice.
Valbuena has made 125 appearances with 15 goals to his name at Marseille and would be a good buy for any club for a fee of £10.5 million (these days!)
I think with money available and players that would relish the opportunity of playing at the Theatre of Dreams, if United were to replace Giggs in the summer I think Sir Alex may peddle past Valbuena in the market a look towards a hotter prospect.
