The Argentinian ace has lit up the Liga ZON Sagres in Portugal with a number of majestic displays from a central attacking midfield position. He is interesting a number of clubs across Europe, with Manchester United the latest to be linked with his name.
The Red Devils have been crying out a for a creative force in central midfield this summer, with a number of world class names being fancied to replace the legendary Paul Scholes. Manchester United’s approaches for Dutch World Cup runner-up Wesley Sneijder have been consistently knocked back and Sir Alex Ferguson has turned his attentions elsewhere.
Very recently Sneijder admitted there may be some room for manoeuvre in a deal but crippling wage demands continue to hinder United’s progress. With the new season looming and a date with their ‘noisy neighbours’ fast approaching, Ferguson will want his squad settled and completed as soon as possible.
While the recruitment of Ashley Young has increased creativity, the former Watford man proved last season he is significantly more devastating on the wing than through the centre of the pitch. Anderson is the only established attacking midfielder in the Manchester United squad and that area is in dire need of reinforcement.
Nicolás Gaitán, 23, has procured 3 caps for Argentina since joining Benfica from Boca Juniors and with Fergie apparently confident in his potential, an €11m bid is being readied in an attempt to secure this classy player and fill the void in United’s midfield.
