The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are still very much down in the dumps after their season was dampened by an FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.
It hadn’t been a great season up until that point having lost out on the Premier League title to direct rivals Manchester City, so things were only made worse when losing in the final to Chelsea. From that game, the need for another defensive midfielder was made apparent and our punters believe that Leicester’s Wilfried Ndidi, who is valued at £16.2 million on Transfermarkt, could be the perfect signing this summer.
Paul Pogba hasn’t yet fulfilled the £89 million fee he cost the Red Devils two years ago but that could be because he needs to be given licence to roam around the midfield, with the protection of two defensive midfielders behind him. The Frenchman often switches roles, one time Mourinho wants him to be defensive minded, the next it’s get forward and attack.
Wilfried Ndidi however has shown since joining the Foxes at the start of 2017, that he is a brilliant defensive midfielder capable of constantly breaking-up play and then helping his team launch their own attack. The Nigerian international is only 21 as well, so given the chance to move to Old Trafford could further his talent even more.
Our punters agree that this move is a sensible one seeing how Marouane Fellaini is likely to leave the club this summer, and then also that Paul Pogba could be given a free-roaming role which could allow United to see the very best out of the Frenchman.
