Manchester United fans will be pleased to see Luke Shaw commit his long-term future to the Red Devils.

Shaw had become a forgotten man under Jose Mourinho with fitness issues preventing him from breaking into the Portuguese’s first-team plans. United might have been expected to buy a new left-back and offload Shaw with just one year left on his deal. However, the Southampton man has looked back to his best this season and has been rewarded with a new five-year contract and a call-up again to the senior England national side.

United fans will be pleased to see Shaw finally come good after United paid £30m to bring him from St. Marys. It has taken a while, but the left-back finally looks like he belongs in the United defence. To keep the fans smiling, United must make a move for PSV Eindhoven winger, Steven Bergwijn, in the January transfer window.

Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the winger is emerging as one of the hottest prospects in the Eredivisie after enjoying a starring role in the PSV side. Bergwijn graduated from the Ajax youth academy but later moved to their rivals and progressed quickly to the first team. The 20-year-old was in fine form last season, netting eight goals and registering 11 assists – his fine performances have continued into the new campaign with four goals and four assists to his name already.

A quick, agile forward with excellent dribbling ability – Bergwijn fits the mould of a traditional Manchester United winger. The youngster loves to beat his man, averaging 3.3 successful dribbles per game this season; more than any other player in the Premier League (WhoScored). His arrival would certainly give Old Trafford something to shout about and help United get back to their best.

With Marcus Rashford on the left and Bergwijn on the right – United’s forward line would be secured for the next decade.
