Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been very fortunate to see some great players grace the Old Trafford pitch over the years.
Indeed, at any moment they can get they’ll reminisce over some of the names they have seen in action for their club as they became one of the biggest sides in the world.
Naturally, then, for a club of that size they are always going to be linked to the biggest names in the game but sometimes they do miss out on them – as was the case with Ronaldinho in 2003.
Indeed, as quoted by magazine GQ, the superstar has revealed just how close he came to joining the Red Devils before opting to move to Barcelona instead.
The former World Player of the Year said when asked how close he was to playing for the club:
“When I was leaving PSG and before I came to Barcelona I had that chance – and I was very close.
“United are a big club and any player would like to play for a big club, but I think I chose the correct league [La Liga] and the correct club [Barcelona]. Therefore I have no regrets.”
The Red Devils, then, could have had the tricky Brazilian at their club but ultimately missed out in the end – much to the dismay of our local Manchester United fans.
