Sweden’s Hottest Talent Flattered By Fergie’s £13m Interest

Sweden’s hottest prospect, Rasmus Elm is being heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, according to a number of daily tabloids.

At 23 years-old, Elm is widely regarded as the biggest talent Sweden has produced since Zlatan Ibrahimovic – a view which has been echoed by former Swedish national coach, Lars Lagerback. The exciting winger is currently learning his trade in the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar where he has received rave reviews from both press and fans for several man-of-the-match displays this season.

Elm joined the Dutch outfit in 2009 where he signed a 4-year deal. His first two seasons were hit by injury and illness but has managed to find his form in the current campaign which has caused some of Europe’s top clubs to sit-up and take note. With just under 2-years remaining on his current contract, a figure of around £13m is thought to be enough to take the Swede off Alkmaar’s hands.

Elm’s agent, Patrick Mork, spoke of the interest regarding the winger to Swedish tabloid Expressen. “I cannot comment on individual clubs, as I know what will happen. It is boring but I must be, I can say that many of the biggest clubs are following Rasmus.

“You should not be surprised at anything in terms of Rasmus, he is now the hottest player in Holland and obviously has a very high status in Europe.”

Speaking of the rumours in circulation, Elm has been reported as saying, “You have to take rumours for what they are, but it is obviously flattering if there is some truth in it.

“I don’t close the door to any league. But the most important thing is to develop here and do as well as I can in Holland.”

United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson has recently spoken of the struggle to find value for money in the January window when managing one of the biggest clubs in the world. Maybe a move for the talented Swede in January is too soon but then again, Sir Alex always remains coy over potential targets and transfers whatever the time of year.
