Talking Tactics: Man United XI vs Burnley

Talking Tactics: Man United XI vs Burnley

Manchester United find themselves in a spot of bother after producing a disappointing performance at Old Trafford last time out.

The Red Devils looked less than convincing last time out against Tottenham Hotspur as they were on the receiving end of a 3-0 thrashing. Indeed, major improvements are required if United are to challenge for the Premier League title as they’re already dropping off the pace.

Indeed, Manchester United will travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley later on today. The Clarets haven’t quite hit the ground running just yet, but they will be desperate to add to United’s woes.

So, having taken Jose Mourinho’s selections from recent games into consideration, we’ve come up with a team that the Portuguese boss could line up with against Burnley.

Look below to the graphic to see the entire potential team in FULL…

We’ve gone with a 4-3-3 formation, as that is the system that would help ensure defensive solidity in the form of a midfield four, which is an area that United struggled in against Spurs.

David De Gea wasn’t to blame for the amount of goals that were let in last time out as his defence left him stranded at times.

In defence, United should field Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof as they are arguably United’s two strongest central defenders, despite their poor start to the campaign. Meanwhile, Luke Shaw has been one of the shining lights so far this season for the Red Devils, with Antonio Valencia also offering moments of brilliance.

Alexis Sanchez should be drafted back into the side to help offer something extra in the final third, while Fred could operate in a similar position as usual. Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic will be Mourinho’s central midfield partnership to provide a nice balance of defence and attack.

Lastly, one of England’s World Cup stars Jesse Lingard should operate to the left of the lone striker as a creative spark that has the ability to create something out of nothing. And, Romelu Lukaku will lead the line for Manchester United, despite his poor display in front of goal last time out.
