Fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are beginning to turn their attention to the coming Premier League season and have begun to argue where their side will finish come May 2017. With a new manager at the helm and a hefty budget, United fans are confident that they will be right back up the top within a year or so.
To say Man United have suffered a fall from grace since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, would be a huge understatement. With many disappointing seasons under their belt since their last title win in 2011, it would be another understatement to say the Man United fans at the bar here in the Tavern are tired of their teams shortcomings in the league, and are ready to climb back to the top.
Whilst the Red Devils may not have the highest calibre team they’ve ever had, there are still some shining stars who can take this coming league season by the scruff of the neck and bring glory back to the red side of Manchester.
These are the 3 players who will play a crucial role in Manchester United’s climb back to Premier League glory.
David De Gea
From an almost guaranteed move to Real Madrid at the start of last season, to being the most important player to put on a Man United kit by the end of it. The first choice Spanish keeper proved just how good he is by almost securing a 5th place finish all by himself.
United finished the season with the joint least amount of goals conceded over the entire campaign, level only with 3rd place Spurs. As Michael Owen would say, teams don’t tend to lose when they concede goals and the Spaniard does a good job of keeping them out.
Of course this man would make the list. With the legendary striker’s move to Manchester signed, sealed and delivered, it won’t just be United fans who will be excited to see this man play in England for the first time.
The Swede, who recently retired from international football, has won league titles in Holland, Italy, Spain and most recently, France.
Wherever Zlatan goes, success follows and if he plays as well as the whole world knows the 34-year-old can, league titles shouldn’t be too far away for the Red Devils.
The only player than can split Man United fan’s opinions more than Rooney. Rashford was thrown into the United first team for their Europa league tie with FC Midtjylland and managed to score with his first touch in that game, his league debut and his England debut.
He’s got goals in him and after only scoring 49 goals last season, that’s exactly what United need. Rashford showed no fear in his debut season and given the chance to grow under Zlatan’s wing, he could grow into one of England’s top young talents and take the league by storm.
