Manchester United

This 24-year-old international would be the ideal fit for Mourinho, and here’s why

The Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are sure to be excited by reports linking them with Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, but is he the right man for the Red Devils?

Following the inevitable departure of crocked top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and the slightly embarrassing and abrupt end to their club’s pursuit of Antoine Griezmann, the Red Devils fans in the bar are looking at Morata as the man most likely to be leading the line at Old Trafford next season.

The Spanish international has found his first team opportunities limited at Madrid following his return to the club last season, but remains a mobile, modern, industrious striker, with a genuine eye for goal.

Morata netted 22 times in 47 appearances last season, which will impress the Tavern’s United contingent, but his overall play and willingness to work for the team – something Ibrahimovic failed to provide last term – should also be a cause for optimism. The former Juventus man is adept at bringing the best out of his team-mates, something recognised by Juventus boss Max Allegri at club level and former Spain manager Vincente del Bosque during Euro 2016.

While not being as high profile as Greizmann, Morata is arguably more what United need in order to treat their fans in the Tavern to a better Premier League campaign next time around, as well as challenging in the Champions League.
