United keeper still in demand despite latest gaff

Yesterday was all about the keepers here at the Football Transfer Tavern and today is no different with David De Gea being our main topic of conversation as the Daily Mail claim it may be the end of the line for the United stopper.

This summer looks not only to be a massive shake up in terms of managers around Europe but also for goalies, with Victor Valdes set to leave Barcelona in 2014 according to a recent report by The Guardian. Of course then we have Manuel Neuer who if Valdes arrives to link up with Pep Guardiola may perhaps be on the move himself. All this means there will be some top talent available in the summer and Fergie has taken note of that.

Spaniard De Gea has never really convinced at Old Trafford and given the claims in the Mail that the keeper is pining for both Spain and his girlfriend, he may well be closer to the exit than ever before.

Despite his reputation in England falling ever lower after a flap that resulted in Spurs equalising in the last few minutes in a 1-1 draw at the weekend, our landlord points out that De Gea is still coveted in Spain with not only his former club Atletico Madrid willing to take him back but also the two giants of Real Madrid and Barcelona who could both be on the look out in the summer. Add to that De Gea is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes and a very interesting summer could be on the cards.
