‘Very, very stupid of Mourinho’ – Fans round on Jose as Schweinsteiger seals MLS exit

There we have it, Bastian Schweinsteiger’s Manchester United career will come to an end in a few months’ time with the German set to leave Old Trafford for a spell in America’s Major League Soccer with Chicago Fire, and emotions are mixed in the Transfer Tavern.

There’s no doubt the serial Bundesliga winner failed to live up to his past glories at Bayern Munich in Manchester, but there remains a feeling he never really got a fair crack at doing so. Fitness issues plagued his debut season under Louis van Gaal during 2015/16, yet Jose Mourinho froze him out at the start of the campaign, which always seemed a little short-sighted given his experience – and was proven to be just that when he was recalled over the winter.

Alas, a new chapter in ‘Schweini’s’ career awaits with Chicago Fire in MLS, where he’ll be one of the standout names in a division that is growing in both stature and quality.

Although many fans on Twitter are wishing Schweinsteiger well and can see the logic behind the transfer for all involved, a fair few are angry with Mourinho for his decision to offload the 32-year-old and his treatment of him…
