Vocal Man United legend in Mourinho tirade after rocky start

Despite his proven track record of success, Jose Mourinho’s reign in charge at Old Trafford has failed to wholly convince the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern.

Having endured a dismal three years, the Red Devils were forced to enter a deal with the devil themselves as they turned to the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’.

The Portuguese has never seen his stock lower after being axed by Chelsea almost a year ago, as well as enduring a difficult closing spell to his time with Real Madrid prior to that.

So, after a bumpy start under his stewardship, it appears not everyone is quite convinced.

Paul Scholes, a legend at the Theatre of Dreams, has laid into the 53-year-old after his rocky few games in charge.

The former England international, who played 718 times for the club, has always been reasonably vocal about his former employers, much to the delight of the United fans in the Tavern.

He was not ruthless enough in the off-season,” said Scholes to BBC Sport.

“There is so much confusion about who should play.

“What I saw of Mourinho at Chelsea, he had 13 or 14 players who played every week. He never rested players even in the League Cup or whatever competition he was in.

“With United it is still a settling-in period – it is going to take a bit of time for them to knit together and see what they are about.

“Is there an identity to the team yet? I don’t think there is.”
