Chris Coleman’s name being met with a boo and a hiss is about the only thing both the Manchester United and Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern agree on today.
That’s following reports in the Daily Mirror that the Wales boss has urged Gareth Bale to stay with Real Madrid rather than return to the Premier League any time soon.
The world’s most expensive player has been extensively linked with a move to Old Trafford though has largely put last term’s struggles behind him this time around.
Scoring 15 goals and recording a further 13 assists, the former Tottenham Hotspur forward is on course to equal his stunning first season in the Spanish capital.
However, he is said to have recently rejected a new deal with Los Blancos, with reports emanating out of Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb.com, that his representatives were working on a sensational return to these shores.
Both Manchester clubs were said to be ready to pounce on the record breaking forward should he become available.
Coleman, however, remains adamant he would rather see his prized asset continue to ply his trade in La Liga.
‘I’d prefer to see Gareth stay in Spain with Real Madrid — purely for selfish reasons,’ revealed the former Fulham boss.
‘When you’re in the Premier League we all know how it is… a battle every week. It’s flat-out and if you are below 100 per cent you get found out. It is a physically demanding league.’
‘But, in Spain, it doesn’t cause as much fatigue during the second half of the season. The quality is there, but the physical demands on players are different.’
Do Welsh fans want to see Bale remain in Spain? Or would the Premier League as a whole be better upon his return?
