What does the future hold for Marcus Rashford?

Manchester United have had a fairly poor season so far this year and despite beating Juventus in the Champions League, Jose Mourinho’s side are one loss away from being in complete meltdown.

After a summer where Jose Mourinho obviously didn’t get all the targets he wanted, Man U look like they’ll once again be competing for the top four rather than a Premier League title. Aside from possibly David De Gea and recently Anthony Martial, there aren’t many players at the club who have stepped up this year and as a result, they sit seventh in the table, nine points off Man City in first.

Up front, Man U have struggled for goals as the club’s main striker Romelu Lukaku has only scored four in 10 games. Marcus Rashford too, seems half the player he was when he broke onto the scene and despite being 21, the England international must step up this year or he will have to leave the club.

When Rashford made his debut for the club four years ago, he looked as though he was going to be the next big star at the club and yet another player to make the step up from the academy to the first-team.

Since then, however, the academy man has struggled to perform. With Lukau arriving at the club, Rashford is often shifted to the wing and due to that, his impact on games isn’t as potent as it would be if he were playing through the middle.

Last year he scored seven goals in 35 games and so far this season he’s only scored two in the league. His best position is through the middle and with Lukaku missing due to injury, there was a chance that he could play as the main striker. Mourinho, however, chose to play Alexis Sanchez through the middle and it looks as though Rashford will have to be happy on the bench.

With so much talent, Rashford has to be playing regularly and in his best position but it looks as though that’s not going to happen at Man U. If things don’t develop this season, the England international must look to leave the club.
