Which defenders should leave Man Utd following Victor Lindelof’s arrival?

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are sure to be pleased with Jose Mourinho’s defensive reinforcement.

On Saturday, it was confirmed that Swedish international Victor Lindelof would become Manchester United’s first new recruit of the summer transfer window, as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his defence ahead of a title challenge next season.

However, in Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Daley Blind, Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo, the Red Devils already have five centre backs and the United fans at the Tavern are sure to be wondering whom of the existing crop will be making way this summer.

Phil Jones looks the most obvious candidate to bid farewell to the United fans in the pub, despite enjoying a reasonably impressive season once he got himself fit.

The former Blackburn man is just too injury prone and has lost some of the physical attributes, that once led Sir Alex Ferguson to claim he could go on to become the best player in the club’s history.

While Marcos Rojo’s long-term injury might just make Mourinho think about keeping five centre-back options around the club, the United fans at the bar might also have seen the last of the Argentine, or more likely, Chris Smalling.

The former Real Madrid boss took Smalling to task last season over his unwillingness to play through injury, and to be truthful, the former Fulham man hasn’t cut an impressive figure over the past 18 months.
