Jose Mourinho is not a manager known for giving youth much of a chance, but he may have to change his ways if he wants Manchester United to win another Premier League title in his tenure.
The Manchester United gaffer has publicly criticised young players in the past. Luke Shaw was singled out for his wrath last season.
Mourinho’s approach is a far cry from the past. Under the tenure of Sir Alex Ferguson, the ‘Class of 92’ emerged as world beaters at Old Trafford.
Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Gary and Phil Neville all emerged out of United’s prestigious youth system, and went on to achieve incredible things together. Alex Ferguson built his team around ‘Fergies Fledglings’ and achieved unprecedented success.
Jose Mourinho has limited the game time of Marcus Rashford, one of the most exciting young talents in English football. He has frozen out, or loaned out, some of the Old Trafford outfit’s most promising stars.
The Portuguese manager should take a leaf out of Sir Alex’s book, and place more faith upon United’s young players.
