The Manchester United fans inside the Transfer Tavern are not getting too carried away with the great start to this Premier League season.
Last season after a great start, United dropped off the pace and became the draw specialists. Even the goals of Zlatan Ibrahimovic couldn’t help them break into the top four, despite some success in terms of trophies. Although Champions League qualification was secured by the Europa League win, it still wasn’t a great season on the league side of things.
Wasteful finishing and a lack of cutting edge was the downfall of the Red Devils, with many of our resident punters becoming very frustrated with the displays.
Our landlord has noticed that the same theme is happening again this season.
Man United have certainly found the cutting edge that was missing last season, scoring over 20 goals already but there’s still a case for wasteful finishing. In recent matches against Spartak Moscow and Crystal Palace, even though they’ve scored four goals there’s still been a handful of chances, easy chances missed.
With the league as tight as it is at the moment and with Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal all sniffing round below them, goal difference might be as good as three points come the end of the season.
These missed chances our glass collector believes may come back to haunt the Red Devils, especially when they come to play the tougher opponents and limited goal chances need to be converted.
