Manchester United fans spent the summer working themselves up into an excited frenzy over the fact Antonio Valencia had vacated the number seven shirt.
“Moysie has promised a big name signing!” they giggled.
“Tony wouldn’t vacate the shirt for no reason!”
“Maybe we are going to sign Gareth Bale!”
“Maybe Cristiano is coming back!”
“Maybe it’s Leon Osman?” … Sorry, what?
The official Manchester United website displayed this somewhat bizarre image of the name ‘Osman’ above the famous number 7, previously warn by the likes of David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and erm … Michael Owen.
We know Moyes loves his former players. The fact the first thing he did when he was appointed Red Devils manager was to launch a bid for Leighton Baines, and the fact he was only able to tempt Maraoune Fellaini to Old Trafford over the two month transfer window is testament to that.
But surely this has to be some sort of bizarre typo error? Or did Moyes really have plans to bring in the 32-year-old to reinvigorate his midfield? We are sure it’s the former, but it we can imagine it’s the latter for comedy reasons! We love any excuse to have a pop at Moyesie after all!
